Jewish Relief Center Elkton Maryland
The Jewish Relief Center (JRC) is an outreach of Hineni Ministies, a non-profit, 501c3 organization dedicated to restoring dignity to humanity by providing relief, care and support to those in need in the Cecil County area.
Located at 528 West Pulaski Highway at the Synagogue on (Route 40) in Elkton, Maryland. The JRC has been caring for community residents for more than eleven years. We are open on Monday mornings, from 9:30 to noon except on Jewish, National and State Holidays. The director of the JRC is Jeffrey Dandoy.
Our mission is to provide emergency relief to residents of Cecil County and the surrounding areas. The JRC holds the fundamental belief that everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, is valued, entitled to respect, is deserving of community assistance, and should be given the opportunity to achieve a life of self-sufficiency. We are funded through government grants, private contributions and mission dollars from the Beit HaTorah congregation. We are handicapped accessible.
The goal of the JRC is not only to meet the immediate needs but to assist clients in becoming more independent within the community by focusing on providing long-term solutions.
Services provided to the community include:
- Food pantry
- Clothing closet
- Shelter monies for rental assistance
- Eviction prevention services
- Financial counseling
- Shower facilities
People who need our services learn of us by word-of-mouth, for the most part. We are the only outreach to people on our stretch of Route 40 outside of Elkton. We often help people who have no address because they are sleeping in their car or outdoors, staying at a friend's house or staying in a motel. We are often the last resort for individuals and families who have no money or no food. Enabling them to live another week at a motel or avoiding eviction is often a bridge to the next paycheck or next opportunity.
Donations of new/gently used clothing, personal care items and food are graciously accepted during operating hours.
